Rams GM tentative keynote speaker for sports workshop June 26-27 in St. Louis

Bill Devaney, the general manager of the St. Louis Rams, has tentatively agreed to be the keynote speaker for the Mid-America Press Institute’s sports workshop June 26-27 at the Sheraton St. Louis City Centre & Suites, 400 S. 14th St.

The keynote address will be 8 p.m. Sunday, June 26, to kick off the two-day sports workshop.

If Devaney has to cancel for some reason, Rams Vice President Kevin Demoff has agreed to take his place.

A reception will follow the keynote address. Preceding the address, conference-goers will attend the Cards v. Toronto Blue Jays game at 1:15 p.m. Sunday.

MPI Executive Director John Ryan has Cards tickets the first 30 journalists to register for the sports workshop. Cost of the tickets is $30 apiece. Participants can register with Ryan by calling him at 217.581.7939 or by emailing him at

Registration is $50 for the first person from a member newspaper and $40 for each additional staffer from that paper. Non-members can register for $75.

Sessions being planned for Monday, June 27, include how to use Twitter to reach readers and find sources and information, training journalists for the future, competing with, and Associated Press sports reporting changes, among other sessions.
