Sports issues workshop planned for June 26-27; Cards game part of the program

Plans are under way for Mid-America Press Institute’s annual sports workshop, which is set for Sunday-Monday, June 26-27, at the Sheraton St. Louis City Center Hotel & Suites, 400 S. 14th St.

The workshop will run two days instead of the usual three days and will begin with a Cardinals game at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, which will be followed by an 8 p.m. keynote address. The rest of the sessions will run all day Monday.

MPI has reserved 30 tickets to the Cards v. Toronto Blue Jays game and they can be purchased and reserved by contacting John Ryan, MPI executive director, when registering. The cost of the tickets is $30 apiece.

Reid Laymance, sports editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, is setting up the program. Last year, Laymance lined up Cards GM John Mozeliak as the keynote speaker for the conference.

Registration for the workshop is $50 for the first MPI newspaper member and $40 for each additional staff member. Registration for non-members is $75. Registration can be made by contacting Ryan at 217-581-7939 or by emailing him at
