Mid-America Press Institute Workshop Schedule for 2011

December 6, 2010

Our regular schedule of five continuing workshops in a year is in a holding pattern at the moment as we wait to finalize details for our annual partnership with APME NewsTrain. We are working on scheduling the NewsTrain workshop for spring and holding it in Madison, Wis., and having the Wisconsin Press Association and the Wisconsin State Journal partner with us. Once that date is set, we will set specific dates and topics for our September and November workshops.

Feb. 11-13, Managing in the Digital Age

Planning for our first workshop of the year is under way. The conference will be held at the Millennium/Four Points Sheraton Hotel, St. Louis, and will coincide with our annual board meeting. The workshop will center on management issues and the ever-increasing digital demands on newspapers, including sessions on mobile journalism.

Late March/Early April, APME NewsTrain, Madison, Wis.

For the ninth time, MPI will partner with APME NewsTrain to present a hands-on journalism seminar focusing on editing and reporting. Attendees can attend one day or both and take the editors’ track or the reporters’ track or both tracks. Stay tuned for a date and place.

June 26-27, Critical sports issues (coincides w/St. Louis v. Toronto game)

Our annual sports workshop is always popular, and this year it will be held at a new hotel, the Sheraton St. Louis City Center Hotel & Suites, 400 S. 14th St., St. Louis. The workshop will center on sports reporting and editing issues and will incorporate sessions on using the Web to get out the latest sports stories.

September, One-day workshop, Indianapolis

In our effort to continue to provide low-cost workshops and to reach out to our membership, we are planning a one-day workshop in Indianapolis. The workshop will include sessions that cater to regional issues as well as other topics. We will offer a very low registration rate, $25 or less, and make it possible for members to join us for part or all of the day.

November, One-day workshop, Kansas City, Mo.

We’re planning another one-day workshop in Kansas City. It will be similar to the Indianapolis workshop and will include sessions that cater to regional issues as well as other topics. We will offer a very low registration rate, $25 or less, and make it possible for members to join us for part or all of the day.
